Margaret & Emma Uganda (M&E Uganda) is a small operation, with huge dreams for the future. When we started, we knew we would need a strong leader to guide M&E Uganda and help us to succeed. There was absolutely no question as to who would be the Executive Director... Natukunda Fortunate was the perfect fit!
Fortunate grew up in Kabale, Uganda with her family. She was motivated in school and was even the head girl (student body president) in primary school. Growing up she saw the importance of education, and worked hard to succeed. At University, Fortunate studied Social Work with the intention of building up her community. Her graduate studies were in Monitoring & Evaluation, which have helped with interviewing and mentoring the women's groups. She is now in graduate school, working towards her masters degree in Social Work and Social Administration.
Fortunate has been working with women's groups since 2015. In 2018, she was hired by our sister company (Margaret & Emma, LLC) in the US to purchase handmade products from rural women's groups. When we started the nonprofit in Uganda, we knew she would be the best Director. She cares deeply for her community, especially the most vulnerable women and children. She has big plans for M&E Uganda, and with her leading, we know we will succeed!
Fortunate is the most compassionate, genuine, hard-working, driven young women we have met. No matter the issue, she fights with poise, dignity and understanding. She may be young, but she is wise beyond her years. We are honored to have Fortunate running day-to-day operations at our home in Kabale, Uganda.
