It is our mission to support and uplift those in vulnerable communities, especially women. As we begin women's month, and celebrate International Women's Day, it is important that we highlight some of the incredible women with whom we work.
Women in rural Uganda work hard to support their families. Many farm small plots of land, cultivating potatoes, beans, and other crops in order to feed their families. The surplus is sold in order to support the family financially. Some vulnerable communities, such as our Women with Disabilities group in Kabale, or our Rwenshama group, are unable to farm and must look for other ways to support their needs. Jobs are difficult to find, especially without an education, and no prior experience.
Our mission is to support the most vulnerable in society, especially women. Skills training offers new paths for these women. These skills can be implemented in a larger business, or can be done on a smaller scale at home or in a group setting. This provides opportunities for women to work around family obligations while having new avenues for consistent income.
As we celebrate International Women's Day, we want to celebrate the unique talents of women, and bring a spotlight to those who work to support and uplift other women.
Margaret & Emma Organization would not be where we are today without the leadership of our executive director and co-founder, Natukunda Fortunate. Fortunate started her career working for a CBO in Kabale, Uganda, where she organized women's groups, taught artisans skills such as basket weaving and paper bead making, and led financial literacy training for women's groups. In 2018, Margaret & Emma, LLC (in the United States) hired Fortunate to be the director of operations in Uganda. When the nonprofit organization was started in 2020, Fortunate was the obvious pick to lead our efforts. It is because of her hard work and dedication that we are able to support women in their efforts to build better lives for their families. Fortunate is an incredible woman without whom Margaret & Emma Organization would not be in existence.
This month, we will highlight members of Margaret & Emma Organization, along with collaborators, who are at the forefront of our efforts, and who continue to support others through their work.
Thank you for your continued support. We are incredibly proud of all we have accomplished, and look forward to helping even more women in the future.
